Security and POPIA at Speaks
POPIA applies to phone calls just as it does to any other personal information, so this page sets out how Speaks handles them. It says what’s in place, and what’s still being finished before launch.
What Speaks keeps
For each call: the number, the time, the transcript, a summary, the cost and, when recording is on, the recording. Calls that are recorded say so.
Where it’s kept
The test system and its records are on a server in Johannesburg, and web traffic passes through a server in Germany on the way there. The voice and language models are provided by OpenAI in the United States, so information crosses borders. We’ll confirm the final arrangements and our safeguards before launch.
Who can see it
Sign-in protects the dashboard, each connected app gets only the permissions you give it, and every change made through a connection is logged.
Who it may call
Each contact has a recorded reason for being called. There’s a do-not-call list, and calls stop when someone says stop.
Still being finished
A set retention period for recordings, deletion on request from the dashboard, separate workspaces for each customer, and a full list of the companies that process data for us. These come before launch.
Questions
Is Speaks POPIA compliant?
We’re building towards it, and we won’t claim it until the list above is finished and an attorney has checked it.
Can I ask you to delete my details?
Yes. Use the contact page and we’ll deal with it.
